Nashville Pics

My camera finally arrived home today from its extended vacation in Nashville. So now I'm posting some photos of us hanging at our friend Chase's house before the Dave show.

Noah's Road

Today my friend Stephanie, who now lives in DC, called me with a heartbreaking story.

When Steph and her husband where in their birthing class they became close with two of the other couples. They have gotten closer having play dates with their babies and outings with the parents. It's been a blessing for her to find great people to share this special time in her life being so far from home. I know she is grateful for their friendship, and I'm grateful she has them since her friends and family here can't be there.

On April 20th one of these family's lives changed forever. They dropped their little boy Noah of at their child-care-giver's home for the day. Erin, the mom, had painstakingly searched for a qualified person to watch her son. She interviewed and rejected many candidates before choosing a women that she thought would love her son like her own. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Now her son is in the hospital fighting for his life suffering from Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Please visit their blog Noah's Road, and please send them your prayer and/or positive thoughts for their son to make a complete recovery. If you could pass this along to others or post it on your blog that would be great too.

Even with these being so recent and fresh, Erin and Mike are trying to use this event to educate caregivers, babysitters, and other parents on this issue. My heart goes out to you, Mike, Erin, and Noah.

Thanks inkOBSESSIONdesigns and Lindsay

This is just a quick post thanking my two most recent followers inkOBSESSIONdesigns and Lindsay from Bella Cene'.

Orange Beach Pics

This was me in happier times, weeks ago when I was visiting the beach, and the loves of my life, the boys from Panic.

Thanks, Kari, for e-mailing these photos. I was super peeved when I realized I left my camera at home, but you saved the day!

Dave Matthews , No Thanks, I'll Stick With Panic

So this past Saturday we headed over to Nashville to go to the Dave Matthews' show. Greg got me tickets to these tickets as a birthday gift. I wanted them because I thought we weren't going to be able to catch any Panic spring tour shows. Fortunately we got to go to Panic last weekend in Orange Beach because the Dave show blew!

The crowd seemed to be a combination of middle aged women and teenagers on a date. Unfortunately for Greg one the middle aged women was sitting behind him. As soon as we got in he sat down, glanced over his shoulder, and got an eye full. She had a really bad combination going of a short skirt, poor grooming habits, and a lack of lady-like leg crossing. GROSS!

Anyways, pretty much all the songs Dave played were exactly like his studio CDs. NO JAMS to speak of. He's pretty much a sellout. At double the price of a Panic ticket, and I could have just sat at home and listened to the CD.

Of course we still made the best of it, and we were dancing and having a great time. This is apparently something that the teenage lovers and bush women didn't approve of. Apparently dancing and fun was not allowed.

It was great seeing our Nashville friends though. I will have some photos of everyone to post once my camera arrives back from Nashville. It escaped fro my bag and decided to hang out at our friends Chase house for another day or two.

Happy Hump Day!

Make sure you watch with the sound on!

                                 Get your hump on today!

Orange Beach Trip

We're back from the trip to Orange Beach over the weekend, and we had the best time. The beach itself was not so great, but Panic was.

We did get a few hours of sun on Friday and Saturday, but the rest of the time was overcast or cloudy. It was enough to get my shoulders brown which is a lot more color than I had before.

Panic was so amazing and so were North Mississippi Allstars and Keller Williams. The shows really ignited my fire to want to see more live music. We already made plans to see a few bands next month.

I totally forgot my camera for the trip, but my friend Kari took some photos that I will post as soon as she emails them to me.

Dear Tax Day, F You

For all of you scrambling around to file extensions or mailing off your checks today, I feel your pain. I begrudgingly mailed of my giant check last week. Is it OK that I put F YOU in the memo?

Here's a little video to make this miserable day a little easier, and I promise it's my last video for the week!

This Is SOOOO Stupid

Just when I thought Lady Gaga couldn't be any more annoying, this song came out:

On what planet does this pass for music now.

I literally had a nightmare about this song the other night. Everywhere I went there it was. I couldn't escape it.

Please tell me why anyone subjects themselves to this ear garbage!

Here is a link to the brilliantly written lyrics. Please take particular notice of these lines:
"Cause I'm bluffin' with my muffin'  , I'm not lying I'm stunnin' with my love-glue-gunning"

Lady Gaga, will you kindly go back to what ever corner of hell you came from and take your weirdo get ups and crappy music!

I'm so glad I'm not a musician with real talent struggling to make it and see this bitch having success. It's the American Idol Syndrome. People value fame over talent now! They are eating the piles of shit the music industry is serving up with a knife and fork.

OK my rant is over.

You Tube Tuesday

This one is in honor of my beach trip. This girl did not do this as a joke. She actually had a TV show on public access in Flordia.

Crawfish Fest Is My New Favorite

Saturday was the best day ever. The weather turned out beautiful, and the Overton Square Crawfish Festival  turned out to be so much fun.

This was the first year we went to this particular crawfish fest, and it was way better than the downtown one. It was like a big block party with music. You could actually bring your own beer too. It rare to find a truly "free" thing to do anymore, so it was a pleasant surprise.

I will definitely be looking forward to this every April now!

Surprise Beach Vaca and Panic To Boot

Saturday ended up being a great day for Greg and me. We got a unexpected windfall at Crawfish Fest.

We ran into a friend that had an extra ticket to see Panic this weekend in Orange Beach. Greg was trying to convince me that he should go, and I should stay home. I was not having it. About thirty minutes later we ran into another group of people who also had a extra ticket.

So this Friday afternoon we will be sitting on the beach and seeing three Panic shows! I'm so psyched! It might be the "Redneck Riveria", but at least it has sunshine and beautiful white sandy beaches (and Panic to boot).

I'll do a post tomorrow about Crawfish Fest and photos from it.

Happy Easter From Me

She's Crafty

Maybe this wasn't what the Beastie Boys meant when they wrote the song, but tonight I was crafty.

My creative side has been feeling a bit stifled lately. After doing hair for eight years, work just isn't enough of an outlet anymore. So I decided to do a few projects to let out my need to create.

First, we colored Easter eggs. I haven't done this since...actually I don't remember when the last time was. I unfortunately haven't improved any since about age seven. Greg's eggs turned out quite well though.

My second project was a hand painted flower pot. I've painted a bunch of these in the past, and now the are all around the ledge on my screened in porch. Over the winter the wind knocked one over and broke it. This is one that I painted as a replacement:

Now I'm about to try to wash the egg dye off of my stained fingers. For whatever reason Greg and my fingers ended up pink even though he used almost no pink. Go figure!

Tomorrow is gym ,work, rush home  get ready, and try to make it to Crawfish Fest by two. Hopefully it will be a good bit sunnier and warmer than it was today, but unfortunately it definitely won't be warm enough to wear any of six fabulous, new pairs of shorts. I really got ahead of myself with all of my recent clothing purchases.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and I'll post pictures of tomorrow Sunday. As long as I remember to take some.

Harper's Island

Holy Crap! This is my new favorite show. One episode and I'm hooked. I love that it is a mini-series. It is so satisfying when something gets all wrapped up. I get enough plot twists that don't resolve themselves forever, or ever, with Days of Our Lives ( I've watched since I was two, thanks for starting me young Mammaw).

I know the preview commercial seemed pretty goofy, but the show itself is really entertaining so far. Tune in next Thursday at 9 central time. You can watch the first episode on the CBS website, so you can be caught up.

Oh Blog World, Keep Me Accountable

OK, I'm having the hardest time resisting the sweets, even more than usual, right now. I think what helped me diet so well right before my birthday was feeling accountable to my blog readers.

So I'm reenforcing (does anyone else think that word looks really weird?) my will to eat better by tattling on myself to y'all if I f up. I will have to eat cake on my littlest sisters b-day on the 18th, but no sugar (non fruit) or white foods other than that until 4/25.

Please guilt me skinny.

PS. I will be drinking alcohol though! Wasted calories? I think not.

This WILL be me!
(don't I look weird with dark hair)

Thanks Erin

Erin, a blogger from just over the Mississippi from me, signed up to follow today. She hails from
Little Rock where she works as a pharmacist. You can check her out on her blog at You Stay Classy Arkansas.

She writes about life with her hubby and newly adopted beagle mix Bella (Kimbree, give Erin props for adopting over buying). She seems to keep pretty busy pharming by day, but her post are quite cute when she has a chance to do one.

Thanks, Erin, for following. I've enjoyed reading your blog the past month. Also thanks for the recommendation on sTori Telling, I've loved every page!

Overton Square Crawfish Festival

I've already found something that I want to do from the new RSVP blog. Weather permitting, we'll be going to the Overton Square Crawfish Festival this Saturday. They'll have food, beers, and bands. It will be at 2094 Madison Ave from noon to six, and the proceeds benefit the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk.

I know I'm not suppose to be going out until Dave in Nashville, but it is for charity. I don't eat crawfish, but Greg will eat enough for both of us.

That's what we'll be doing this weekend. How about y'all?

Thanks Ashley

Hey Ashley, from Pink Julep. Welcome to my blog and thanks for following!

Ashley's blog is one of the first that I signed up to follow and is still one of my absolute favorites. It's super girly and smartly funny at the same time.

She is a Kentucky girl living on Grand Cayman Island with her fiance, that she will very soon be wedding.  She's basically living the dream, and sharing it with all of us through her blog.

Go visit Ashley soon over on Pink Julep!

Check This Out! Especially My Memphis Peps

Emily, from Life As I Know It From Memphis,  just posted some info on a new Memphis blog that has me super excited. Check her post out

This makes me super happy because Memphis is not the best about promoting the great things that go on here. I can't tell you how often I hear about some great event, that I would have loved to attend, after the fact.

Thanks Emily!

Thanks Kembree

I'm so excited that two people signed up to follow my blog in one day! Along with Sarah, Kimbree is now officially following ( although she has been unofficially for a while now). Thanks Kimbree!

Kimbree's blog, Persian Pit Bull,  is especially fun for  me to read because we have an IRL connection. Her boyfriend Tony used to train me a while back, and I would sometimes see her in passing at the gym.

Her blog is about her life with Tony and their to pit bull babies. She has a really interesting life with her agenting, belly dancing, charity work, blogging, and busy social life ( WHEW!). That makes me feel lazy in comparison just writing all her activities.

Check out her blog!

Thanks Sarah

Sarah, welcome to my blog. Thanks for signing up to follow! I hope you enjoy my post, and please feel free to comment on anything you like, or dislike.

Sarah's blog On the Rhoads of Life is about her newlywed life in Texas with her husband and two adorable, little dogs ( or fur babies as she calls them). Her blog is witty and cute. She also post lots of pics which is my favorite part of reading other blogs. I hope that doesn't make me a voyeuristic weirdo. Oh well!

So swing on over to Sarah's blog and check it out. You can never have enough blogs to follow, right? Says the girl who is quickly becoming a blog addict!

Stupid Weather

I just checked the weather for the next two days. Temperatures are going to be in the 40's and 30's. I swear to G this better be the last cold snap we get. I'm ready to get my hands in the dirt and nurture something to life. What wants to live in 30 or 40 degree temperatures?

I apologize for my complaining to any of you reading this in cooler climates than we have in Memphis. You must love your respective cities very much or be just plum crazy for putting up with un-spring-like weather in a month that should so clearly be spring.

Wasn't March suppose to be "in like a lion out like a lamb". Well it's already April so please only gentle lamb like weather. Thank You!

Boo cold, stay away!

My Newest Obsession

Every now and then I get fixated on some particular type of clothing. For a while that has been scarves, warmer ones for the winter and lighter weight ones for the summer.

But that is old news now. My most recent infatuation is with Junk Food vintage concert tees. You may have noticed me wearing some in photos on my recent posts.

I currently own this one:

And this one:
I'm ordering this one as soon as it's back in stock:
I also have my eye on these:

Obviously I like the classic rock tees, but they make 80's bands, punk, and hip-hop ones too. If you've never tried on a Junk Food tee, they're super soft and comfy. They run small (I usually wear a small, sometimes extra small, in most brands but a medium on Junk Food tees). They also make men's concert tees for your husbands or boyfriends ( and kids sizes too). Check 'em out!

What is your current fashion obsession you find yourself buying multiples of? Or am I the only one who gets stuck on something and ends up with a "collection"?

EDIT: If you find a tee you like on 80stees.com us the code BeamMeUp for 20% off through April 6th.

Downtown Memphis Farmer's Market

The Memphis Farmers Market at the Central Train Station downtown is starting up again April 18th. It will be every Saturday from then until Mid-October 7am- 1pm.

I haven't made it down there in years past because I work on Saturday mornings (unless we're out of town), but this year I'm taking a morning off to go.

I really want to check out the Windmere Farms stand ( warning: their website is a little heavy on the religious thing). They are our local certified organic farm, and they even have organic strawberries, which are really difficult to grow organically.

If you have a free Saturday morning check it out and grab some yummy produce or some fresh flowers! Oh joy, the tastes and fragrances of summer are almost here.

J Crew Dress

I needed a little retail therapy today so I took a trip out to the suburbs to the J Crew. I found a great dress and wanted to post a picture of it. When I checked the website it wasn't there (??), but I did see an adorable dress that's on sale. I used Polyvore and put a little outfit together. I put accessories that contrasted the warm color of the dress to keep the outfit from looking too brassy. I really wanted to find a pair of peep toe or d'orsay pumps in a darker pewter, but you get the idea.
Find me on Polyvore

The price point on the dress is great. It is on sale for $98, and I thought it would be perfect to wear to a wedding or fancier shower. Depending on your size it's also available in lilac and/or light pewter. It's a cotton/silk blend so it would be perfect for a hot Memphis summer.

I'm Weak

OK I already broke my vow to not go out until 4/25.  Last night Shelby wanted me to go with her to listen to her husband sing. I like David's music and love me some Shelbs, so I was happily obliged to do so. I thought I could go without drinking, no problem. I would just have some dinner and hang out.

Well when we got to the bar ( some really cute place adjoining Stop345 downtown that I still don't know the name of) they had no food. The longer I sat there I just felt I needed something to do, so after an hour I got a beer.

Three beers later  I felt this overpowering urge for a cigarette. Since my inhibitions were down a little after the three beers, I caved and bummed one. I know, I know I'm weak!

I ended up going to the Blue Monkey with Shelby's Uncle Bubby and Tinesha, my new favorite person in the world. We had a great time hearing Uncle Bubby's stories of his youth ( when he was a gymnast, when he was in an acting troop,  and a crazy party were he ended up in England with no money to get home). But while we were there I convinced Ty to by a pack of cigarettes and smoked three more and made her smoke. I have a sickness, and now I'm inflicting it on others!

Please any of you out there who were social smokers ( smoke-only-when-drinking-smokers) but have kick it share your tricks of how you did it with me. I'm to weak to just will myself not to smoke.

My friend Alex said she did it with acupuncture. I would do that before I chewed Nicorette gum or something that I consider equally as gross as smoking. Would the $300 that acupuncture would cost be worth it?

Uncle Bubby

Shelby Me Tinesha

Thanks April

This post is just for saying thanks to April for signing up to follow. Her blog, Mom of 2, is about her life with her two adorable sons. From her pictures posted she appears to my envy hair. It looks to be the long, thick, blonde hair I've longed to have as my own my entire life. Hey at least I can have the blonde part. To quote Meatloaf " two out of three ain't bad". Thanks April, and I hope you enjoy reading my blog!
